Is Muhamalli the Political Graveyard of Mahinda Rajapakse?
Ever since I wrote a news analysis on the second battle to capture Muhamallai titled “Once Bitten, Twice Shy, Are They Really?” many things have changed. Firstly, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) have given up conventional war fare in the eastern theater and reverted to guerilla warfare. 143 bodies of Army personnel brought to three undertakers in Colombo
Media Center for National Security says that 100 LTTE cadres were killed and 196 were injured while 43 Army personnel were killed, 33 were missing in action and 160 were injured in battles in northern fronts yesterday (23).

Sri Lanka jets bomb rebels a day after deadly battle
Sri Lankan planes bombed rebel positions on Thursday, a day after dozens of Tamil Tiger fighters and government troops were killed in one of the bloodiest battles in 25 years of civil war. The army said it killed over 100 rebels in fighting around the northern Jaffna Peninsula on Wednesday, but also admitted 43 government troops were killed and 33 missing in action.

UN body condemns Sri Lankan airstrike on VoT
The Director-General of UNESCO, Koïchiro Matsuura, has condemned the air strike on the Voice of Tigers radio station that killed five of the station’s staff. A total of more than ten people are reported to have been killed in the attack.

Army Chief denies any military debacle
Army Chief, Sarath Fonseka refuted claims made by particular groups that the Muhamalai battle was a debacle. A battle, he said is no cakewalk. The defence ministry quoting the Army Chief said even an ordinary infantryman knew the casualties suffered were nowhere near what could be termed a military debacle.

Defiant Tigers cling to last bastion
