| Flying Tigers stage fresh attack as Sri Lanka fighting escalates |
Tiger rebels using light aircraft bombed military targets in
northeastern Sri Lanka early Sunday as security forces launched a fresh
ground offensive after a deadly bus bombing, officials said. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) hit two military
installations in the Weli Oya region, where security forces launched a
new drive against the rebels on Saturday, a top security source said.

| Weli-Oya : Next front in Wanni battle |
Several small attack teams of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) moved ahead of
their defense lines in Weli-Oya (referred to as Manal-Aru by the
tigers) to conduct a pre emptive strike on LTTE positions on the FDL,
yesterday (11th) noon. This limited operation was aimed at dismantling
LTTE defenses in Kokkuthiduwai region.

| SLAF bombs A'lampil, 12-year-old girl wounded |
80 students who were writing examinations Friday noon narrowly escaped
death in A'lampil in Mullaiththeevu while a 12 year old girl among them
was injured on her head, when Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) dropped bombs
75 meters near the Roman Catholic School.

A 15-year-old boy and a 51-year-old woman were killed and 9 civilians,
including a one-year-old baby, were wounded when a Sri Lanka Air Force
(SLAF) Kfir fighter jet bombed fishermen on shore near the Church of
Vealangkanni in A'lampil Wednesday around 3:30 p.m.

| LTTE Repulses the Sri Lankan SF Intrusion in Mannalaaru |
Mannalaaru - Heavy fighting between Sri Lankan security forces (SF) and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the Mankindimalai and Ceylon Theater in Mannalaru area ensued as SF troopers were tried to push into the LTTE area. The LTTE thwarted the attacks and SF pushed back to its original position by the LTTE, according to the rebel sources in Mannalaaru.

| Over thousand Sinhalese displaced due to rebel mortar attacks in Welioya in Sri Lanka |
A total of 1,118 individuals belonging to 310 displaced families of the Athawetunaweva village in the Welioya Defense Colony are now staying in a school in the adjacent Parakramapura town. The villagers fled the Sinhala border village in the North Eastern Sri Lanka due to fear for life as the Tamil Tigers fired mortars to the village yesterday. One Army soldier was killed and several others were injured in yesterday’s mortar attacks.

Head of the Political Division of the Liberation Tigers, S.P.Thamilchelvan, in an interview with TamilNet on Saturday said that the decision by the International players to ban the Tigers in various countries and the actions which restricted the political work of the Tigers, were being interpreted by Colombo as endorsing its military approach. The southern polity was working on unacceptable solutions, that were rejected by the Tamils 30 years ago, he said, alluding that it was the Sinhala leadership which needed to change first.
