Govt. says no to Madhu Church as zone of peace
The government has rejected a request by the catholic community that the historic Madhu Shrine in Mannar be declared a zone of peace. Speaking to 'Lanka Dissent', a senior military official said the refusal has come after defence authorities requested the President that the church should not be allowed to fall into the hands of the LTTE yet again. Tigers strike inside Mannaar HSZ
The city of Mannaar was shaken Monday night by outgoing artillery barrage when Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) mounted an attack inside the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) High Security Zone in Thirukkeatheesvaram area, adjacent to SLA garrison in Tha'l'laadi, breaking the Forward Defence Line (FDL).

Army & LTTE trade artillery in Mannar
The army and the LTTE traded artillery in the Thallady area of Mannar this morning (Feb. 12th), defence sources say. According to the Defence Ministry website, the LTTE first launched an artillery barrage that fell in the densely-populated Thallady town, damaging the church there. Latest reports said that six soldiers were killed and 10 others wounded when the LTTE fired artillery at the Thallady Church.
