| The Lost Battle for Tamil Eelam |
The battle for Tamil Eelam was lost many years ago when the various
leaders of the political parties that served the Sri Lankan Tamil
community like the All Ceylon Tamil Congress, the Federal Party, the
Eela Thamilar Ottumai Munnetram (ironically neither united nor
progressive), the maverick C Suntharalingam’s Adanga Thamilar Party and
even finally the Thamil United Liberation Front never had the foresight
to press into their respective parties intellectuals, political
visionaries and even more, the grassroots of the community in any way.

| Sri Lanka bars UN officials from rebel territory |
Sri Lanka said Thursday it would not allow the United Nation's human
rights envoy to visit rebel-held areas in the island's north. The UN
High Commissioner for Human Rights, Louise Arbour, is due in Sri Lanka
next week to assess the island's deteriorating rights record, while the
UN's top torture investigator, Manfred Novak, is already in the country.

that Sri Lanka's Tamil Tigers organisation has roots which run deep in
Australia's Tamil community. Dr Christopher Smith has given evidence to the Melbourne Magistrates
Court in the committal hearing for three men accused of using the
Melbourne-based Tamil Coordinating Committee to raise funds for Sri
Lanka's Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), also known as Tamil
Tigers.

| Govt. says no to Arbour’s Wanni visit |
The government has turned down a request by the UN Human Rights High
Commissioner Louise Arbour to visit the Wanni during her upcoming visit
to Sri Lanka, well informed sources said Tuesday.Ms. Arbour, who is due
to visit the country next week, had made a request to tour the Wanni to
get a first hand assessment of the situation in the LTTE controlled
areas and also to meet the rebel political leadership, including LTTE

| Tigers deny taking bribe to rig SLanka elections |
Sri Lanka’s Tamil Tiger rebels on Tuesday rejected lingering
allegations that they cut a lucrative deal with President Mahinda
Rajapakse to ensure his election victory nearly two years ago.
The head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam’s (LTTE) political
wing, S. P. Thamilselvan, told the Uthayan Tamil newspaper there was
“no truth” that the rebels were paid to prevent minority Tamils from
voting for Rajapakse’s rival.
